Enrollment increases and program growth were among the topics discussed at San Jacinto College’s state of the college event Oct. 30.

The overview

San Jacinto College is currently the eighth largest community college in enrollment out of the 50 community colleges in Texas with nearly 32,000 students enrolled, according to a presentation by the college. San Jacinto College Chancellor Brenda Hellyer said at the event the college is expected to have 45,000 students on an annual basis by the end of this year.

Out of the nearly 32,000 enrolled students, 64% are attending the college part-time as working students, and 36% are attending full-time, the presentation showed.

Last academic year, preliminary data from the college showed over 7,800 credentials were awarded with just over 6,300 graduates. Hellyer said this is a 50% increase compared to 10 years ago.

Hellyer also noted there are over 7,350 dual-credit students, which represents 23% of the college’s enrollment. About 800 of these students will graduate this spring with a degree or certificate from the college.
